New Mom Care Package: 25 Thoughtful Gifts She’ll Love
Every new mom deserves all the care she can get and giving her a new mom care package is one way to let her know you are thinking of her.
There are so many gifts you can give a mom that she will actually love, however, one gift type I have found most new moms never forget, is one that also puts her health and wellbeing into consideration and this is why giving her a new mom care package will be super appreciated.
It is so easy to get caught up in the excitement of the new baby. Everyone becomes so eager to finally meet the new baby they’d all been waiting for.
Before becoming a mom, my favorite gift of choice for new moms was diapers. Statistics have shown babies go through over 3,000 diapers in the first year alone (I wonder who took the time to carry out this study) and I knew I could do no wrong giving a new gift.
However, going through the birthing experience myself opened my eyes to a whole new reality and that’s the fact that new moms need some care too.
The fourth trimester of pregnancy (where you heal from the stress of pregnancy and the rigors of birthing) and the first week after delivery where you adjust to your new role as a mom can take a toll on you and getting that extra attention and pampering will be great for your physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.
The first week after I had my daughter, I thought I would go crazy. Having to feed another person around the clock (my daughter had mixed feeding from birth), the stress of having breast milk that wasn’t meeting the demand, and the obvious lack of sleep all combined to make me one huge ball of grumpy and slightly frustrated being.
My second was a bit easier, but only slightly so. It was a little easier adjusting to my role as a mom again as I knew what to expect and prepared for it.
Now, when going to see a new mom, I try to consider her challenges and give gifts that would make an impact at this time.
A new mom care package contains a range of hand-selected gifts that would be useful to and much appreciated by the new mom.
However, what do you put in a care package for a new mum?

New Mom Care Package Gift Ideas
What to put in a new mom care package?
Thankfully, there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to giving a gift that’s also for the mom. The best kinds of gifts, however, are those that tick the following:
Whatever gift you’re thinking of including in the new mom care package should be one that would be especially useful to the new mom now and also for a few months.
When I had my son, one of the gifts I got was a Weight Watcher book and while I appreciated the idea behind that gift at the time, it didn’t fit in with my goal. It wasn’t really a bad gift, however, I wasn’t exactly looking to watch my weight at the time so I ended up giving it out.
– Appeals to the Mom
You also want a gift that appeals to the new mom’s personality. It wouldn’t do to give a gift that, while it seems sensible, would mean very little to her or one that might not likely be useful to her for a long while.
–You Want to Avoid Gifts That Are Quite Popular
These gifts are not bad in themselves, however, because they are popular, everyone else might be giving one of these and the new mom will end up with a ton of the same gift and fewer of those she really needs.
For instance, a new mom who gets a lot of newborn-size diapers will have her newborn outgrow this size in a few weeks, leaving her with a few diapers she’ll no longer need.
What then is the best kind of gift to include in your new mom care package?
New and seasoned moms will tell you the best kinds of gifts for a new mom care package are gifts that should fall into one or more of these four categories:
- Gifts meant specifically to pamper her (because she deserves it)
- Gifts to make life a lot easier for her.
- Gifts to make the newborn more comfortable.
- A thoughtful and general gift she can use as she deems fit.
Gifts to Pamper Her
Any gift right here should perform the sole function of spoiling the new mom, because, let’s be honest, she needs it.
After the last trimester of pregnancy where, for most women, it can feel like your lower back is going to snap into two at any moment, not to mention the rigors of labor and delivery, your body needs all the love and extra care it can get.
So…here are some great self-love gift ideas to add to your new mom care package
- BodyRestore Shower Steamers
Definitely one of my favorite gift ideas for new moms. These shower steamers dissolve in the tub quickly to release potent aromatherapy essential oils to help you relax.
Providing a home spa treatment, the BodyRestore shower steamer will wash away stress, leaving you invigorated.
- Neck Shoulder Back Massager with Heat
After breastfeeding and putting your baby to sleep (even if you got the breastfeeding position right), your shoulders and back need a little massage to ease those knots that might be building from having sat still a while.
The neck shoulder back massager comes with eight kneading massage nodes and infrared heating to give your strained muscles the deep touch it needs.
The fact this massager has an adjustable speed and direction control and can also massage your arms, calves, foot, and just about any other part of your body, makes it the perfect gift.
- Burt’s Bees Gift Set
Another great option is the Burt’s Bees Gift Set which helps you keep your beauty regime running, even if you want to do this on a moderate level.
The Burt’s Bees Essential set comes with five essential beauty products to help keep your skin supple. Find the deep cleansing cream, hand salve, body lotion, foot cream, and lip balm to help maintain that glow that comes after delivery.
- Postpartum Hair Loss Supplement
Because most new moms see their pregnancy-induced lustrous hair start to shed after delivery, the Frida Mom Postpartum Supplement for Hair and Skin will be another great gift idea to include in the new mom care package.
Having lustrous hair, glowing skin, and strong nails is the goal of this gift.
5. A Bar of Her Favorite Chocolate or Candy
A bar (or two) of her favorite chocolate or the Ferrero Rocher Fine Hazelnut Milk chocolate will make the world go round for this new mom.
Whoever said diamonds were a girl’s best friend, probably hadn’t tasted a bar of some really good chocolate or was too shortsighted enough to see that chocolates can be on this list too and definitely at the top of it!
Gifts to Make Life a Lot Easier For Her
This new gift set will make life a lot more comfortable for the new mom and is worth considering for the new mom care package.
- Haakaa Breast Pumps
The Haakaa breast pump will come in handy for a lot of reasons:
- To get her breast milk flowing if she’s facing a low supply.
- To pump enough breastmilk to be stored, so she can take some much-needed rest whenever she wants.
The Haakaa or any good manual breast pump does this work just fine, but so will an electric breast pump, especially the Lansinoh SignaturePro Double Electric Breast Pump which pumps more milk in less time from both breasts simultaneously.
- Comfy Cotton or Silk Pajamas
A pair or two of comfortable pajamas or a loose-fitting top on jammies also work great. These ensure the clothes aren’t plastered to your skin, giving it enough room to heal and also breathe.
- Haakaa Milk Collector
The Haakaa Milk Collector collects milk drops throughout the day (and night), increasing your milk supply without having to pump.
It also prevents the stale smell that comes from breastmilk stains.
- Black Seamless Leggings
Black leggings are another clothing must-have for the new mom.
- A Customized Water Bottle
Since breastmilk is 90% water, nursing moms need to keep their water intake up to meet their newborn’s growing demand.
A customized water bottle serves to remind the new mom she needs to take in more water.
- After Birth Care Items
Nipple cream, vagina ice packs, and cooling pantyliners are some great gift options for new moms.
It helps for the new mom to have these on hand at all times,
- New Mom Guide
If she’s a new mom, this mom guide will be of immense help to her. Every mom, whether new or old timer will always benefit from the experiences and tips of veteran moms.
Gifts to Make the Newborn More Comfortable
This set of gifts is solely for the newborn, to make him as comfy as possible and we all know a happy baby is a happy mom.
Here are some baby gift ideas that will do well in a new mom care package:
- Baby Skincare Products
When I had each of my kids, the hospital absolutely advised against using any baby products for the babies’ delicate skin.
They were bathed daily using a mild disinfectant and that was that.
However, research has shown that there is no harm in using baby skincare products meant specifically for babies, especially as their skin tends to become dry pretty quickly.
You want to use a product that comes with very little to no chemicals and products like Johnson’s baby range of skincare products or the Aquaphor Baby Welcome Baby Gift Set are fit for this.
- Diaper in Size 2 or 3
As earlier said, this is my gift of choice. I remember getting two packs of diaper size 2 when my son, Nathan was born and being super grateful when it was time to use them.
This diaper size is handy and the mom can just switch to them immediately she notices the newborn size no longer fits, saving her having to make a quick dash to the store until much later.
- Baby Shusher
If you’ve ever had a fussy baby refuse to go back to sleep until you rocked or swaddled him, then you’ll understand just how effective a baby shusher can be.
This simple-looking device can be a god-sent as it helps calm and soothes your little one to sleep using an approved rhythmic shushing technique.
- Baby Swing and Rocker
Although a baby rocker can only be used when a baby is six or seven months, they are quite helpful during this time.
Moms find they can go about their regular chores without having to carry their babies on them. The baby gets placed in the rocker and gets soothed by the sight of his mom and the gentle rocking motion of the rocker or swing. A win-win for everyone.
- White Noise Machine
Similar to a baby shusher, a white noise machine creates a relaxing environment that helps soothe your baby to sleep.
- Ergo Baby Carrier
The Ergo baby carrier is sturdy, comfortable, and comes in four carry positions.
And yes, the four carry positions; front carry (inward facing), front carry (outward-facing), hip carry, and the back carry is one top reason most moms love it.
The fact it’s also made from comfortable durable fabric is also a plus. As a first time mom, you’ll find this carrier is sturdy and high-quality enough to not just be used for your baby, but can also be used for the next.
- Newborn Essential Kit
The newborn essential kit contains those important items a mom might need, but may not quite prepare for.
This kit comes with six must-have items that become absolutely necessary when the need for them arises. In it, you’ll find the following items: a saline spray, a nasal aspirator, gas relief drops for tummies, infant fever & pain reliever, gripe water for tummy upset, 2 Boudreaux’s Butt paste original diaper rash ointment.
- Baby Teething Toy
A baby teething toy to help soothe the baby when he starts to teeth and prevent crankiness.
A Thoughtful and General Gift She Can Use as She Deems Fit.
For this set, these are gifts that can be used as the manufacturer intended or as the new mom likes.
They are flexible enough to fit multiple purposes.
- Amazon Gift Cards
An Amazon gift card is another great option for a new mom care package since the mom can use them in purchasing a few items she needs
- A Memory Journal
A memory journal to record memories and the baby’s milestones is another gift the new mum will appreciate.
The Leather-Bound Baby Memory Book is great for this as, besides being a journal to write in, it also doubles as a scrapbook for all those little baby memorabilia who would want with you always.
- Personalized Gift
If you know her well, then you might also want to consider including a personalized gift, as this will have a strong impact on her.
- Spa Gift Card
Or you could just opt for a spa gift card so she can go get a professional massage and pamper her skin any time she wants.
- Nursing Pillow
You could also opt for a nursing pillow, which helps to make feeding time a lot more comfortable for mom and baby and could be used as a neck pillow much later when the baby Is asleep.
